The Crusaders wanted to control Jerusalem. This was important to them because it is the holy city where Christ was born and was also believed to be the centre of the Earth. The Crusaders believed that they had every right to be in Jerusalem and they had been travelling on pilgrimages for many years but now with the Saracens there, they were being stopped. They wanted to regain their land and along with it’s riches, relics and maybe even a women. All they wanted to do was please God and the Pope. So they thought they could do this by going on crusade. Though religion drove some most people to join the crusades others just wanted to fight in wars and kill. Even though the percentage of people who thought that way was low it still happened. The Crusades impaced the middle ages socially, economically, and politically. Socially they involved violence in Christianity. Christianity was, an intensely pacifistic religion. Christianity did not come to dominate the Roman Empire through strength in arms, but through the strength of their example. Economically they helped improve trade ideas and function. Politically they had a profound effect of European politics.

France and England were always having conflicts sparked by succession controversy. The Influence of Revolutionary and Napoleonic France depended on the nature of its relationship with the other European states. The French were able to more efficiently handle the english in the second time around because of the Joan of Arc and they figured out how to deal with longbow men. This extension of government was able to fund a standing army – which was built around the new technology of gunpowder - increasing both royal power and revenue, and the size of the armed forces they could field. France had begun the journey to absolutist monarchy which would characterize in later centuries. After the Hundred Year's War, the Parliament became very powerful and the kings power was beginning to get smaller and smaller. People were supporting the Parliament more because they wanted everyone to be equal and have their own rights.
